For the animal head I chose to do a hedgehog. Hedgehogs aren't my favorite animal, but I think they're adorable and I thought it would be a challenging but fun project. From sculpting this project I learned many things. I learned that adding even the smallest details to a piece can really make a difference. I used a clay tool to create the little quills on the back of the hedgehog by raising up little parts of the clay in rows. Even though it was a bunch of small details it still made a huge benefit to my piece. A new technique I learned used a sponge. In my picture of the hedgehog the quills were darker toward the head and lighter at the ends. I want to create that color change so I painted over the quills and then used a sponge to gently brush off the tops so it would be lighter. This piece in general I think was a success with the details and general shape of it, but if I could change anything I would have taken more time to paint the face. I would have either used different colors or make it neater.
